MemberI'm aware of that script, and have used it before, but it doesn't do exactly what I need. I need something that will track the location of spsecific words in a passage, so that I can later insert a cross reference to the line they're in, similar to what InDesign can already do with cross references to pages.

MemberI don't know how to insert unicode characters in indesign. Is this something I need a script for?

MemberHave you tried showing hidden characters to make sure there aren't any page breaks that were accidentally inserted? Since there is clearly something strange going on with your character style, I would look into that and make sure the keep options and indents are all set correctly. I'm not totally sure though, that seems really strange.

MemberIs there any way to trick indesign into thinking that there is a line break at the end of a line (without it actually breaking)? Like some non-breaking return?

MemberAlright, thank you for your help (both on these forums and in the lynda videos)!

MemberWell I'd like to be able to reference the line numbers, and have those references change so that if I reformat the text or add new lines the references will change accordingly. With the line numbers in a separate frame they would be unrelated to the content, right?

MemberHm, it doesn't seem as if it'll do exactly what I need it to. Is there any way to accomplish this using inCopy? I've never used it before but could it be helpful here?

MemberThat was actually an old post of mine. The solution I found only works for poetry. With prose, because there are no line breaks, there are only line numbers for paragraphs. Is there any way to tell indeisgn to put a number there without insert a line break?

MemberSo, the solution we've come up with is to use both the script and the automatic line numbering. By making the line numbering invisible and 1% horizontal and vertical scale, we can still use them to cross reference, but they aren't displayed. Rather, the numbers from the script are what is shown.

MemberGreat, thank you for the tip! In that case, do you know of any way to make automatic numbering display only every fifth number? That was my main motivation for using that script.
