Only one book file, Lindsey, and yes, it's on a server. The book file is loose in the edition folder, with b&w and color documents folders, graphs, and photographs folders to store working materials in.
Since we've just finished an edition, I've quizzed the subs about working practices, and learned that a couple of them have been a bit sloppy about opening their document files — from the desk top or within INDD, but not from the book file — which may contribute to some of the 'unrecorded' changes the book file is trying to warn about.
I was just fretting saving the book file could somehow over-write their document files.
