Well me personally only use simple shapes in Indesign (sorry if it seems like cursing to the create-as-much-artwork-as-possible-in-indesign-itself aficionados (Mike? ;) )

I usually just create the artwork in Illustrator and then link it in Indesign.

And copying from and pasting to Indesign seems definitely a (big) risk to me that the appearance will not be preserved.

You're very welcome – glad I could help you out :)

How it could have changed I don't know.. did you switch to newer version software (Id, Ai) in the meantime perhaps?

Not that that would be a direct explanation (file conversion shouldn't change any related settings) but maybe a direction to search in.

But maybe if this is the only file that gave you 'trouble' it's not worth investigating (although it still keeps me wondering).

Just remember to check with Output Preview in Id, View / Overprint Preview in Ai and you should be made aware of the problem if it exists.

    Cheers.

    Hey LoneM!

I suspect your Illustrator artwork is set to overprint. In Indesign turn on Overprint Preview in the View menu. I bet it disappeared right?

To fix it, open the artwork in Illustrator and select the parts of the artwork that disappeared. Then open the Attributes panel by going to the menu Window / Attributes. In the panel that appeared clear the check in front of both Overprint Fill and Overprint Stroke.

Save the artwork, update the Link in Indesign. Now recheck with Overprint Preview on. It should now be fixed.

It's always wise to check the PDFs you send of for potential problems in Acrobat. In the case of overprinting white you would have spotted it by using in Acrobat Advanced / Print Production / Output Preview. In the dialog check Simulate Overprinting; it would also have disappeared there.

    Hope this helped!
