Yeah I though I made that as clear as a stagnant pond! 
Each row of the spreadsheet (excel file) has all the data for an event. (Its an events diary I'm creating so each row has things like – Event title, Date, Start time, Location and a description etc..) In Indesign I have created a text frame with a table inside to hold all the data from a row in excel. I used the data merge function the set all the info into the correct tables cells. As there are multiple events, I set things up how I wanted using the multiple records fuction in data merge. Then I create the merged doc.
No matter what I try I get varying sizes of space between each event or record (whatever you want to call it).
