I only use the ruler to create guides on the fly, when I'm zoomed in very close on something (usually text).
I'm on a MBP and would like to maximize screen space.
I would *love* to be able to make guides in both of these scenarios. If such a thing already exists, I will indeed be a very happy camper.
SCENARIO 1 – “Visual” Thinking
– I'm zoomed in at 800% on a headline that begins with an extra-bold, expanded W.
– I want to visually align the hed with another element.
– I'd like to put some guides in the area, but I've hidden my ruler.
– In this case, I don't care (or want to take the time to look up) what my x-coordinate is because…
– All of the RAM in my brain is in the “design” sector, deciding how far left to move the W so that it looks like it's aligned with the other element.
I'd love 3 KBSCs: Create a horizontal; vertical; both guide/s wherever I click.
SCENARIO 2 – “Math” Thinking
– Some of the time I know where I am in my doc “math” wise.
– I've planned my grid based upon the document dimensions and content.
– For instance, let's say I'm making an 11×8.5 chart, with 1″ margins, 2 columns, and 2 rows. I'd set up my main guides in the beginning with Step & Repeat.
– Sometime later I want a vertical guide in the middle of the second column.
In this moment, all of the RAM in my brain is in the “math” sector (even with a complicated grid) so it's is easy to calculate the x-coordinate in my head: (I'm sure a lot of us do this)
11 wide minus 2″ margins = 9″ live width
9 divided by 2 columns = 4.5″
4.5 divided by 2 = 2.25
1 + 4.5 + 2.25 = 7.75
I'd like to invoke a dialog box that allows me to put a horizontal or vertical (or both) guide at the coordinate/s that I enter.
Tks!
