Very hard to tell without seeing it.

It could be a frame or column break or something – see this blog post about hidden characters and what they mean

You can turn on the Hidden characters through the Type Menu – Show Hidden Characters

You can also view your threaded frames by going to View>Show Text Threads

And you have to be in View>Screen Mode>Normal to view these
