Bunne, ID has all the same features as QX in this regard, I believe. You can ignore the frame fitting features entirely. Just place an image, then hold down Command-Shift (or Ctrl-Shift on PC) and drag a corner with the black arrow selection tool to scale the frame and its contents.

To see the image scaling, you need to select the image (as opposed to the frame): Double-click on it to select the image. Double-click again to select the frame. (Yes, the Links panel is also a good method.)
