I also have frequent crashes, with the same resulting loss of all preferences, and return to OOB condition. I am using Adobe CC 2015. I have have 8 people who work under me, and several, but not all, experience the same crashes — so often, in fact, that a member of my team wrote a script for saving a copy of the preferences and restoring them after a crash.
