Though it’s a very old post, but the comment from David Blatner really helped me a lot.

I created a new document with 2 columns (gutter was 30 mm) and tried gridify feature to make some text frames. Unfortunately the gaps between those frames were pretty large and I couldn’t find the reason, which made me so frustrated.
