These characters are normally hidden in InDesign.
Try to go to: “Type” – and at the bottom: Choose “Hide hidden characters”. Then you don’t see them anymore.

These characters are InDesigns way to show linebraaks, tabs and so on. You can select and copy them, find/change them, but they will not print, or be visible, unless you tell InDesign to show them: By choosing “Show hidden characters” :)
