Going Mobile with Illustrator: iPad Edition
Laura Coyle

Stop being chained to your desktop workstation or laptop! Illustrator for iPad is far more powerful than you might think. Sure, you can be creative and playful with it, but most importantly, you can ideate, sketch, flesh out, and build pro-quality vector documents on the go… and then effortlessly transfer them through the Cloud to your desktop or laptop for finishing. Take a tour with veteran illustrator Laura Coyle as she steps you through what you need to know.

1:45 PM – 2:45 PM Pacific
Logos and Icons
Von Glitschka

In this focused and inspirational talk, designer and Illustrator rockstar Von Glitschka will walk you through his creative process — from ideation, vector building, color exploration, art direction, rejection and ultimate usage of iconic brand design. Along the way he’ll share creative insights and methodology he uses daily to craft visual identities for companies large and small.

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM Pacific
Drawing Better, Faster
Deke McClelland

Even the savviest Illustrator users often spend far too much time drawing the same ways they have for years — for example, sticking with the Pen tool, thinking that it provides the best control. In fact, Illustrator continually adds better ways to work – ways that are faster, more elegant, and allow for smoother control. Join Deke for a closer look at techniques and tools that may have flown under your radar and discover more modern ways to draw, including:

  • Smoother Pencil tool
  • iPad integration
  • Rounded corners
  • Little known Pen tool tricks

Day 2: Friday, August 27, 2021

All times listed in Pacific Time (Seattle) or UTC-8

7:45 AM – 7:55 AM Pacific

Color, Patterns, and Symbols
Laura Coyle

Illustrator is full of tools that appear easy… until you actually start using them. Join the amazing Laura Coyle as she unpacks some of the most important features that involve coloring (and recoloring) your artwork, building repeating patterns, and creating designs that wow!

9:15 AM – 10:15 AM Pacific
Working with Images
Monika Gause

Illustrator is known as a vector drawing tool, but often you need to work with pixel/bitmapped images. If you don’t know what you’re doing, bad things can ensue. In this focused session, internationally renowned Illustrator expert Monika Gause will explain how best to use pixel artwork.

Topics include:

  • Embedding vs linking, resolution
  • Converting pixels to vectors by autotracing
  • Converting vector artwork to pixels (and common gotchas!)
  • Using raster images for brushes, masks, and more

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM Pacific
Infographics
Tony Harmer

Considering that high quality infographics are 30 times more likely to be read than text articles, it’s no wonder that creating infographics is one of the biggest asks for designers these days. But for many designers, data can be daunting! Good drawing methodologies can be the key to successful and efficient (or just calm, and hassle-free) infographic design.

In this session, you’ll learn how to:

  • Develop tighter Illustrator skills to make dynamic graphics
  • Put Google Sheets (and sometimes Excel) to work for you
  • Deal with irregular scales
  • Create a chart where no usable chart type exists
  • Go beyond the Illustrator chart types

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM Pacific
Lunch and Informal Meetup

Grab a bite to eat and come chat at our “virtual table” along with our speakers and experts in the Adobe Illustrator community from around the world.

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM Pacific
Live Paint and Advanced Gradients
Deke McClelland

Explore two independent features – one old, one new – that each provide a high degree of automation and really stand out from the pack. Live Paint offers path interaction opportunities that go beyond traditional stacking order. Gradients can span strokes. Freeform gradients are way more practical than Gradient Mesh and provide a similar kind of organic control. Combine them, and… well, things get awesome.

1:45 PM – 2:45 PM Pacific
Conversation with a Master
Orlando Arocena and Mark Heaps

Meet Orlando Arocena, a Mexican-Cuban-American illustrator who creates vibrant vector art for clients such as Marvel Studios, Disney, Sony Pictures, Pepsi, and many more. Arocena’s graphics infuse modern techniques with pop culture references and traditional Latino folk art influences. His vector images have gained him fame, from sugar-skull inspired vector graphics for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, to designing innovative artwork for a temperature-sensitive Jose Cuervo tequila bottle.

Joining Orlando is Mark Heaps, a long-time CreativePro presenter, Illustrator and Photoshop expert, MAX Masters Award Recipient, author, and ketchup addict.

You don’t want to miss this one!
