I have an InDesign CC 2017 document that I am exporting to ePub. One of the hyperlinks in the bibliography is not showing up as a live link in the ePub. When I select the url in InDesign and go to Type/Hyperlinks & Cross-References I can neither create a new hyperlink or edit an existing one. All choices except “Convert URLs to hyperlinks” are grayed out. There is nothing unusual about this hyperlink. If I copy it and put it in the address bar of a browser it opens the correct page. Why won’t ID let me create a hyperlink out of this url?

I’ve had this happen to me. Although I’m sure you have been, be excruciatingly careful that there’s nothing like a bracket that’s easy to miss when cutting and pasting. I’ve done a fast export to html to see if I can spot something in the code. I’ve never failed to find the problem that way.

Let me tell you how i solved this. I paste the hyperlink in the address bar of a browser. The correct page opens. I copy the link in the adress bar, select the link in the ID document, paste the contents of the clipboard over the top, and the link is now active and can be edited. I can’t see what’s different, but there’s obviously something. I was thinking if there were some typo in the link, wouldn’t i get a file not found error from the browser? Well guess I don’t as long as the problem has gone away.
