I have a TrueType Arial font that was modified by one of our designers to create different math symbols, like a square root. The font was made about 7 years ago for a PC shop. Now we are installing the font on a Mac.

In an InDesign document both MathArial and Arial display correctly, but on a web page any Arial text changes to the MathArial, so that the text all looks like math symbols. The computer does not see the difference between the Arial system font and the Math Arial font on web pages.

Is due to how the original font was modified? Do I need a font editing application to fix this? How do I fix this?

      Appreciate any help.

Web sites usually uses fonts pre-installed on the viewer’s computer… to force your custom font you need it installed on your server and you have to import the font in your style-sheet, even then you can’t foresee if the user has overridden this with is browser settings. If you don’t have those symbols in too many places maybe an image might be better?
