I made a book about 150 pages for a bank and now client wants me change all the numerals from oldstyle to tabular. Ho do i do that??? really need a help! thanks in advance.

Well, it depends on a few things. Is it a Open Type font or Postscript?

If so, how did you set up the numbers? In your paragraph style (under open type features)? If so, change the drop down menu from old style to tabular.

Or did you set up character styles for it? In that case, you can also change it there?

Or did you use grep in your paragraph styles?

Or did you search and replace on the figures to make them old style?

      Dear Dwayne
Text is set in Freight Text Pro, supposed to be an Open Type.
worked on paragraph and character styles and nothing happened. Then I started to get frustrated, came up here to resolve it.
Now i just found out, if i change it -Find/Change Glyphs Panel- from Freight to Minion, my problem is over although it is a cheat. Must be got to do with Freight, i suppose.
      Thanks for answering though.

Change the figure type in the paragraph style to Lining Figures. They will line up the same as the non-existent tabular figures in the Freight families. At least my version does.

^^Good to know. I’m not familiar with the font. I probably should have typed “lining” instead of “tabular.”

I rarely do books with old style figures.

      Hi Dwayne,

There are some instances where it confuses me when I look at a font. Really, Lining figures are specifically all set to cap height (with some variance) versus the up/down cadence of OS figures. There are both Proportional Lining and Tabular Lining figures. The Freight family just calls them Lining (Figures) versus a more specific designation of Proportional or Tabular.

I only did a quickie look at my version of Freight and the advance widths for the Lining Figures are all the same (i.e., not proportional) and so should line up in columns if that is also part of the OP’s need.

Thanks, Mike. I”ll keep that in mind if I ever have to use that font. I’m sure it will be helpful to the OP.
