I am using a typeface with some lovely discretionary ligatures. My client loves them except one between s & p. Can i use GREP or something to remove it or deactivate it, but leave the others?

      Thank you……………………..liz

      Hi Liz,

      you can insert an non-joiner-character between s & p.

      Find what: (s)(p)
      Change to: $1~j$2

      or maybe the better idea:
      Find what: sp
Change to: nothing + Change Format OpenType Features > Checkbox Discretionary Ligatures off (this can also applied by a character style!)

      best

      Thank you Kai that works.

Is there a way of embedding this logic so that I don’t have to apply it over and over after editing. I know you can have GREP styles is there a similar feature that will apply a replace automatically when I type ‘sp’ and get the discretionary ligature I don’t want?

Sure. Make a character style in which discretionary ligatures are turned off. Use a GREP style to apply the character style to sp.

I used “st” instead because there was no “sp” in the placeholder text.
