This is a stumper! All production dept. can’t figure it out. Editor uses Word, and is an English document. All her documents contain what appears to be an embedded object or frame, but it can’t be deleted. It can be copied and pasted. When it is clicked on, lines appear and the two lines look like text on a path (Illustrator). Is strange. There is a screenshot I could post, but I don’t know how to do that here. We have seen some strange ones, but nothing like this.

Best option of screen shots is to upload them to an image-sharing site like imgur.com and then paste the URL here. Or if there is an IDML or snippet file you want to share, you can put it in dropbox and share the url here.

But is this a Word question or an InDesign question?

      Is it one of these?

Thanks for your quick response, as usual!

We figured it out. It could be both InDesign and Word issues with formatting/importing, InDesign is picking something up from the Word doc. Word doc copy is placed into threaded frames. The frame itself has been converted to a path (text on path) automatically, so you see the familiar text begin/end lines of type on path. The way to fix it is to select frame with select tool > Type > Type on Path > remove type on path.
