      Howdy.
      There seems to be an annoying bug in InDesign 2015 that occurs when applying the “Ordinals” feature to numbers when using some Open Type fonts. Turning on the setting results in bad formatting of what’s supposed to be the superscripted parts, as in 2nd, 4th, 23rd, etc. The superscript is applied to the first letter of the suffix, but not the second letter.

      This problem does not occur when I save the file as an IDML and open it in InDesign CS4 (my old buddy).

      Does anyone know what’s up with this?
      There are a zillion of ordinals in a book project, and I sure could use a magic Grep or search query or something to speed up manual formatting of these things. Personally, I see no need to superscript them, but some clients insist on it.

      Thanks
      Uncle Mike

      I don’t know about the bug, but to fix the ordinals through GREP, you can do this:

      Find What: (?<=\d)(th|st|nd|rd)\>
      Change Format: Superscript

      Or, even better, use the above code in a GREP style, with a superscript character style applied.

      Picasso said: “A good artist copies. A great artist steals.” So this is from where I stole this: https://creativepro.com/quick-grep-to-superscript-ordinals.php

      I haven’t seen that bug, either. Ari, you were too quick on the reply for me…haha! My expression I use for ordinals is nearly the same…what are the last two characters (backslash greater than) for in yours?

        As I said, I stole it from an article by David Blatner. And to quote him: “Next, make sure they’re the last thing in the word by putting a \> (backslash greater than) after it.”

      Yeah, I probably don’t use the word boundary as often as I should…I guess I wouldn’t expect 32nd to show up in the middle of a word…

      Also, I skipped that last line in your original post because I thought it was just a favorite quote of yours and part of your signature! #needsleepandortea
