      Hi!
In an InDesign document I’ve a problem with aligning text.
In the doc I have different paragraph styles and in some of them I’ve used numbered list.
In one numbered list there can be another numbered list inside (in TOC in this case)
And they all have their own alignments. The Toc title’s Left Intent is 0, as it is of the Body Text’s as well.
Also the following paragraph styles (numbered list, titles, body text etc.)are intented to the left with the value 0.
But still, the paragraphs after the Toc title begin as if I’d set the Left Intent to eg. 5 (and I’ve set it to be 0).
Now the whole document aligning continues after the Toc title to begin from the new Intent (“5”).

The numbered lists I’ve made so that the first list is Level: 1, List: Default,
the second list (the one inside the first one) is Level: 2 (List: Default).

Has anyone bumped into this kind of case? What could be the solution to get the alignment as I set it?

      Hello Anu,

I have a solution for this, but the better way is to just import file without ordered (numbered) list and then make list inside of the InDesign.

      Just follow the steps:

1.Choose “Type Tool”, select the lines or paragraphs that you want to apply numbered list to.And click on the numbered list button in the control panel. The great thing about numbered lists is that you could update them very easily.

2.Select all the paragraphs, open up paragraph style panel, and make new paragraph style and for example call it “level 1” and be sure that you selected “Apply Style to Selection” check box.And click OK.List is messed up, but don’t worry.

3.Double click at style you made before. At the left click a Bullets and Numbering to open up that pane.In the Numbering Style place you need to change “Mode” to “Continiue from previous number”.And now the list is ok.

4.Select the paragraphs that you want to be the second level numbered.Again, go to Paragraph Styles panel and make another style called level 2 and be sure that you selected “Apply Style to Selection” check box.Go to Bullets and Numbering again, and at the Level textbox choose number two.And then you can change Format,Number(code), and the part that is most related to your question is position. You can just increase Left Indent and that’s it.

Note:If you want to make another level you just keep making paragraph style and keep changing level textbox.

      Artwork Abode.

Thank you for your answer and advice. Otherwise things went fine according to your advice, but most of the times the option “Apply Style to Selection” was gray, was unaccessible. Still, I could get the Style to where I wanted.
