If I delete index entries in InDesign CC 2014, a marker with PN appears on the Index panel. Occasionally, after choosing “Add All” for an entry, I create a range of page numbers, e.g. 103-107, and then I delete the individual entries for 104, 105, etc. The PN list grows quite long. Is there any way to get rid of them?

Oddly (to me), the PN entries are considered “overset”. When generating the index, I get the choice to include (or not) entries for overset text. Does this choice only refer to the PN tags, or does it involve other things?

Am I correctly understanding what the PN stands for, and is there any way to eliminate them from the Index panel?
