David didn’t mention it, but there are File Handling preferences as to whether INDD a) checks for links and/or b) finds missing links before opening documents. Many users will never have a need to change the defaults.

However, I (and I assume others) spend a great deal of time swapping FPOs for high-res, and in order not to miss anything, I typically have FIND turned off. Finding low resolution images while the press is running is not a good thing….
