      Hello

I hope you can link images
      I have this problem:

      https://s23.postimg.org/bs2hdomgr/tabs.jpg

The lines in gray are the ones I want to transform as the ones in green below.
I already have specified the tabs in a paragraph style.
I only want to put tabs at specific points (as the 2 lines in green)
How can I tell it to put the tabs at a specific point (in GREPS maybe…)

      Thanks

Yes, using GREP with Find/Change might let you do that. It depends on if the pattern is very regular (if you can define the pattern of exactly where the tabs should go).

David, unless I am *very* mistaken the pattern is: “add 1 tab at the start of the line”.

(Oh wait, I am) Sorry; plus space-dash-space becomes tab-dash-tab.

Jongware, I think there are additional tabs inserted before and after the hyphen.
So perhaps you could search for:
        ^(.+?) - (.+?)$
        and replace with
        $1-$2

      Thanks guys!!

I’m watching your lynda courses, David.
I come from a long time of XPress and I learned Indesign in one week, thanks to you :D
I’ll try these codes when I get to the file (tomorrow). For now Thankyou very much guys!

I see Greps are very powerful but I’m finding it hard to use (maybe I just need time experimenting) But what sources do you guys suggest for understaning them better?

I just tested the code with another file..
Thank you very much David!!!!! It worked perfectly!!! You saved me so much time!! :D
It only missed the first tab (but I found out how to add it with the drop menu)

Lots of stuff in this link!! Thanks!!!

It’s funny.. after all these years with computers, we still have to use this unintuitive programming language to tell them what we have in mind.

      quick OT..

Is there a way to fill a shape with white color? Like you can do when you type D to fill it with the default colors.

There is no keyboard shortcut for that, but you could make your own object style to apply it with a click or with quick apply.
