Good day,
I'd like to ask some questions about indesign. Normally I am a web developer, but I have received an assignment involving indesign. I must import (if possible) a xml file containing various kinds of data. We are building a magazine and people can submit data to enter in magazine online. A page of the magazine is typically divided into eight blocks. Each of the eight blocks will contain an image and some text. However some of this data will require two blocks. A larger image will be shown across two blocks. Also adds will be submitted online as ready to use files in indesign. Adds can have the size from one little block to a full page add.
Can I generate one big xml file in which I set attributes concerning the size of the blocks and containing all data to be entered in each block (I will do the calculations on the positions of each block in my web application which generates the XML file). I want to import the XML file into Indesign with data entered into the correct block with the correct sizes. I have bought the book: a designers guide to adobe indesign and xml, but this book only speaks of importing xml where each block/element looks the same.
So can anybody tell me if it is possible for me to do what I want? And if so, give me a little pointer in the right direction?
Thank you very much.
Robin
