How do I delete a page without ID reapplying master pages to moved pages?

When I delete a page (for example page 9), ID reassigns the master page layout to all the pages that move over (10-100). How can I stop ID from messing with the page layout of pages 10-100 when I delete page 9? I'm using CS6. Thank you.

Isn't this logical? When you delete page 9, page 10 becomes page 9, with the master page items from the old page 10.

If you delete a page, you're not left with a gap, all the pages just move up, but they keep their Master Page item.

This is how it has always been (with InDesign and QuarkXPress). I assume you have a facing pages document… so when you remove (or add!) an odd number of pages, the left hand pages turn into right hand pages, and vice versa… therefore, the master page has to be reapplied. It's always better to add or remove an even number of pages.

There are ways to manage this a little better… I think AutoFlow from In-Tools.com can help you manage the pages a bit more.
