      Hi,

I saw a posting here about how to set up autocorect to enable quick shortcuts for en and em dashes, among other things. CS6, which I'm using now, doesn't seem to allow the “show in Finder” functionality under the scripts menus. But, I found the appropriate XML file, anyway. It's “English USA.xml.” I opened it and edited it, adding “—” for an em dash and “–” for an en dash. I saved that. Rebooted InDesign. But, no luck. Shortcuts aren't working. Any ideas?

      Thanks,

      Peter

It's hard to see there what I actually typed in for the em and en dashes. I typed in three hyphens for an em dash, two hyphens for an en dash.

A hyphen or even multiples of hyphens are different to an en or em dash, so that may be where you are going wrong.

I know that. Thanks. Actually, I found my answer in some hints I found from a type vendor. There are already shortcuts for en and em dashes built into ID. Option + hyphen equals and en dash. Option + shift + hyphen equals an em dash.
