When I export my greyscale doc to a pdf from CS5.5 the resulting pdf shows cmyk plates (although 100% in K only).
Our printers (litho) are refusing to accept the job as greyscale as they say it is cmyk.
In CS4 the black in the swatches was 100k only, but in CS5.5 is shows as cmyk.

Can I alter the swatch or export as greyscale?

This is an age-old problem. In CS6, you can actually export a true grayscale PDF. (I don't know how you did it in CS4, but it shouldn't have been possible.) But if you can't upgrade to CS4, then use Acrobat's convert colors feature:

Ah, I feared this may be the case.

We had no problem in CS4 – black only documents produced black only pdfs (the Black swatch in CS4 showed black plate only).

I am finding a few annoying issues with CS5 regarding pdfs – text reflow, images bitmapping etc, so will be keen to move up to CS6 asap.

      Thanks for the reply.
