Matching a literal asterix using grep in InDesign CS6

I am trying to match embedded inline page numbers in an InDesign document. Thus, for example, the document has its own pagination but indicates the original pagination of the text it is reproducing using a number preceded by an asterix. Orignal page 83, for example, would be indicated in the body of the document by *83, indicating that page 83 of the original text began at that point in the text. I want to match each of these original page numbers so that I can delete them. I have been unable to develop a grep expression in InDesign that will find the literal asterix followed by a series of digits.

      Any suggestions?

The regular way of 'escaping' GREP characters and to have them processed as “literal” character is to precede them with a backslash . So * will find a literal asterisk, . a literal full stop, and \ one single backslash.

Your asterisk-plus-digits search would be this:

      *d+
