Footnotes to endnotes with Peter Kahrels script undone/reverse?

I used this perfect script by Peter Kahrel to convert footnotes to dynamic endnotes. Everything just went fine till my clients decided – after all the text work is done, sure – that they now want the footnotes back. Does anybody have an idea how I get these cross references back to footnotes?
My idea so far – but I didn’t try it out yet:
Instead of outputting just the ‘fake’ footnote number (as part of the cross references style) I could output the whole paragraph. Then I had to cut the text and create a regular footnote and paste the text back in. This would save me jumping back and forth between endnotes and the position in the text. But dealing with 300 notes, this sounds like a pain in the butt
Happy about any ideas.
