    I created a catalog last year that linked Excel files to InDesign. The pricing increased this year so I need to re-link with an updated Excel file. I have compared the old Excel file with the new to make sure nothing changes in the columns and rows and renamed the file exactly the same as the old file.

    When I open InDesign, I get see that I need to update the link which I tried to do in the links panel. However, I receive the message:

    Cannot update link for (document name and path) please place the document to reset the link.

    Why should I have to do this and why can't I just update the old link?

    Thanks in advance for any help!

    I figured it out. When I was linking the Excel file last year, I was using Excel 2004. I have since upgraded to Excel 2011. I need to save my new files as an Excel 97-2004 Workbook, then it re-links.
