Here is the problem I try to solve but just don’t know how:

      My task is:
In a text, there are many words which are surrounded by low hyphens, like these samples copied directly from the text:

      The _poetry_ and
      why the _Chronicle_ takes such
      consummated _broken_ almost
      You can call _Jimmy_

I need to change the font of words inside low hyphens from plain to italic and remove low hyphens.
So, the word _poetry_ will become poetry.

Can it be done with InDesign???

      Extra info:
I’ve tried ‘search and replace’ but it just didn’t work – I have to work individually on each one of hundreds words locked between low hyphens.
Seems to me GREP is a good option, did look in InDesign Secrets site, but I am InDesign novice and just don’t have the knowledge to set GREP properly no matter how hard I am trying…

Could experienced pros tell me how to set and use ‘search and replace’ (or GREP) correctly for this task, please?

Thanks in advance to all willing to help!

      Hi Erika,

      Here is your GREP:

      Find what: (_)(w+)(_)

      Change to: $2

Change format: +italic (click on the looking glass button, go to Basic styles and select “italic” from the “Font style” drop-down).

To apply it, click “Change All”, after selecting your scope in the “Search” drop-down.

Inspiration from: https://help.adobe.com/en_US/in…..DC9Fa.html (Example 1: Finding text within quotation marks)

      Good luck.
