    Hello, I'm a beginner-designer with just over 1 year in the business. I've been doing all sorts of small projects, but never before did a magazine layout. Now I got to do it for the first time and I'm not sure where to start. So I was wandering if there's perhaps a “standard” page size and layout for a typical magazine? Page size bothers me the most because I'm not sure what size is most friendly for that kind of reading. Standard A4 (210*297 mm) size that was recommended by my editor seems boring to work with and even more boring when you read from it. Maybe someone could point out some important stuff about making a magazine layout and grid system..?

    Oh, and BTW,. it's a high-school students magazine, for what it's worth.

    No, there is no such thing as a typical magazine size or layout, though there are common sizes. Best thing to do is to talk with the printer you're going to be using to print this thing and ask them. Also, go to a magazine/newspaper shop with a ruler and take measurements of the ones you like.

    Hi David, thanks for your reply. Well I guess I'll just have to experiment :) …but really I just hate it that EVERYTHING is always “urgent” in printing business, I have to finish it by the end of the week.. and even haven't got all of the editorial that's planned for it! .. so I guess I'll have to experiment some other time :)

    BTW, i really LOVED your Lynda.com Indesign videos, and will thake this oportunity to thank you for making my Indesign learning so much fun :)
