I assume this has been resolved, but I haven't been able to find it in the forums. A user had CS2, CS3, CS4 and CS5 installed on her system. We deactivated and uninstalled CS2, CS3 and CS4. But in doing that, now when she brings up a folder window with her InDesign documents in it, the files are no longer associated with InDesign.

Normally, that's not a problem, since you can just right-click the file name and choose “Open With” and then select the correct application. However, “Open With” isn't an option, so when I choose program and then browse to find InDesign.exe (in the c:Program FilesAdobeAdobe InDesign CS5 folder) and select it, the list of applications doesn't change.

Is there some easy (or not so easy) way to make InDesign the default application to open .INDD files?

      Thanks,

      Larry

No sooner did I post, when I found the answer. As much as I'd like to take credit, I found it here: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/423183 – thanks to Ken Grace (although he was resolving it for CS4). Apparently this has been an issue since CS2.

Have you tried going to Windows Explorer> Folder Options > File Types

      select INDD

Advanced > Edit > Open action

      and see that it contains

      “C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe InDesign CS4InDesign.exe” “%1”

I'm guessing the CS4 location, because I'm still on CS3.

The quote marks round the “%1” are important. I have seen them omitted after going through a standard use of the interface and that won't work.
