      Hello,

      Does anyone know the best way to setup an InDesign CS5 doc to create a template for a door hanger ad?

      MOST IMPORTANT – CONSULT YOUR PRINTERS ON THIS!

      ===================================

      It would depend on the shape of the door hanger and the hook – ask a printers if they already have a die-cut template that you can use. If they do then they can supply you with a file to use. This will save on the cost of having a die-cut made. If you make your own die-cut template and supply that to the printers they will have to add the charge for creating the die-template.

      1. So you have two choices – design your own hook and size for the door-hanger.

      2. Ask a printers to supply a die-template to use for the door-hanger.

      But making your own will likely result in you paying extra for a die-cut template to be made by the printers.

      You should definitely get in touch with the printers and find out from them if they have a template. If they don't then you should liaise with them in regards to what size to make the door hanger so that you get the maximum amount of door hangers out of one sheet of paper as possible, this will help in save in costs of the printing.

      From InDesign though:

      You make a new document the width and height of the Door Hanger.

      Then you place a Template on top of this page (made in Illustrator or InDesign) with just the basic shape of the door hanger, an outline, this is called the die-lines.

      Make the Colour a SOLID RED SPOT COLOUR and set the line of the template to OVERPRINT.

      Make it the TOP LAYER in the document and LOCK the Layer.

      Place all other graphics, text etc. on seperate layers below the layer of the DIE CUT Template.
