      Hi Guys,

I really need some help with this. A deadline is fast approaching and I feel like I am going in circles with this.

I have an xml file with content from a database. Everything is coming through ok except for the inline graphics. They are coming through as text boxes that are as small as they can be (not the original size or even the size of the content – see image below). See the red plus sign? My first clue since it's supposed to be a graphic box.

When that box is expanded to reveal the content, it actually displays the XML coding. See the version declaration below? Weird.

And this below is how the image should look on import. This is just done from the stylesheets by hand.

I have also tried using a DTD file with only this in it…

And lastly here is the XML I am pulling in. The yellow line is the tag for the image that i am trying to import. Also tried with a jpeg file and with a closing tag instead of self-close.

Im using map tags to styles and this particular tag does not have a style associated with it. But I do want to apply a paragraph style to the actual line it is on.

Im not sure what I'm doing wrong. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!

      – Sarah

Unfortunately, I don't think that's how images are tagged in InDesign's XML world. I can't recall exactly. Have you tried making something in InDesign, tagging it, and exporting it as XML to look at? That often helps.

Have you watched Jim Maivald's XML and InDesign title at lynda.com? Or read his book? In my experience, XML is incredibly frustrating for things like this. I would probably never use XML for a directory like this. Instead, I would use InData from emsoftware.com (use code idsecrets211 by end of February to get 10% off).

Yes I have, a few times = ). I based this all on his course at Lynda but something still isnt adding up. I created it and styled it in InDesign to start, exported as XML, then reimport into a clean document. I also tried an xml file that i created outside of Indesign.

What we are doing is finally taking a directory from Quark 6.5 into InDesign. I started out doing it the same way Quark does it with just basic tagged text. But then found out that doesnt support the inline graphics. So I went the XML route thinking that the way I need to go.

This software you suggested seems to do what I am trying to achieve. I can look further into that.

That sounds good, Sarah. The tagged text feature could work, too, but you might consider looking at another of Em Software's products: Xtags! (Yes, InDesign's tagged text is kind of weak. But xtags helps a lot.)

I downloaded the demos and am very intimidated. Im not sure I have the time to learn a whole new way so I think I need to continue on in finding a consultant. Do you know any good consultants I can hire to help me fix this? = )

Actually in looking further, the Xtags thing may work. I started this whole process with xtags. It does seem to flow in correctly that way. Thank you for the suggestion. I have been going in circles with this for the past week.

      Hi Sarah

The problem might be with your href value. You are missing file: before the https://...
      that is href=”file:https://www.tambourinecreative.com/pmd/Aventine_BW.eps”

see lesson 6-2 in Jim Maivald's InDesign and XML

      Good luck

      Shaun
