How to add linked 2-page combos together?

I often need to start a new story in a book or magazine by inserting a two-page combo of a “chapter opener (CO)” page followed by a “contining text (TX)” page. Sometimes the opener will be verso, sometimes recto. But I want to be able to insert these 2 pages with text linked from the CO to the TX page and after that, autoflow into more TX pages.

Back in the Quark-old days, I could insert a master for the chapter opener and specify that it should flow into a master B or whatever – but I haven't figured out a way to do this in InDesign. So, I have to insert a CO page, then a TX page, then link them, and then I can flow the text for that article. I do a lot of separate articles, so I'd love to find a shortcut for this.

I tried setting up a master spread with a CO on the left and TX on the right, but when the text flowed, it added another CO after the TX page. And I often start chapters or stories on the recto anyway.

I tried using a library item, but couldn't find a way to put whole pages into a library. I suppose I could use a 2nd document and just keep drag-inserting pages, but that's a clunky solution for many reasons. There really should be a simpler way.

Anybody have a solution for this? If so, muchas gracias!!

If I'm not mistaken (I may not understand your problem exactly), I believe that in-tools.com has a plug-in for this.

      David,

You're right, they do. Thanks! Although, *sigh*, yet another plug-in to buy, and upgrade. You're one of the few who don't charge to upgrade their plugins to each new version of CS. Since I go back and forth between CS4 and CS5 a lot, that's an expensive pain. And, when I tell others how to do it at our IDUG meeting, they won't want to pay for the convenience. But, not your fault!

      Thanks again
