I am trying to keep the file size of the documents I create to a minimum. On the high end the documents will have a file size of between 1.7-2.7mb and contain 15-20 4.5inchx4.1inch jpegs pasted from another program.

Is that an unusually high file size and am I not being efficient during the documents construction?

      Thanks very much.

That's tiny and nothing to worry about. To get the file size as small as it's going to get use the file>save as command and save it over itself.

And I hope you mean you're placing those images. Pasting images into InDesign is not a very good worklfow and will likely result in very poor output.

If you have 20 images that are 4.5 inches x 4.5 inches (to make it easier) and let's say it's RGB and it's 300 ppi

Then 1 image is going be 725kb.

      725kb*20 = 1.77mb

      Sounds about right to me.
