      Hi

I'm putting a magazine together with lots of reusable items or snippets. I'm torn between using the Library function or Bridge. So I thought I'd ask Indesign veterans the question – which would you use?

      Thanks.

If you're working alone, it doesn't matter. If you're working with others put them in a folder and use bridge.

A library can only be opened and changed by one person at a time, while a folder in Bridge can be added to by any number of folks. And with MiniBridge in CS5 it's real easy to maintain that folder of snippets.

Can't libraries be shared too though, Bob? I mean, it wouldn't make sense if you can't back them up and share them…

Yes, it's painfully obvious I've never used libraries (yet?)… I'll hang my head in shame now ;)

A library file is (more or less) an InDesign file, so you cannot really have more than one person adding/removing items from it (editing it). I believe you can put it on a server and have more than one person opening it and taking items out, though, just like you can have more than one person open an INDD file at the same time.

I think snippets are more flexible, but libraries are more organized. Libraries allow keyword tagging, searching, and so on.
