I created a pdf from an .ind document. The document was 14 pages long and the file size was 55,000kb.Each page contained

two gif files which were inserted via the PLACE function.

The pdf that was produced via the export function needs to be reduced. The standard compression options were used

in the export process. Documents of equal length from other sources are no where near as large as the one I produced. What mistakes were

made during document production and or during the export process.

PDF file size depends entirely on the export settings, such as: image encoding (zip vs. jpg), image resolution, transparency flattening, color conversion (rgb s. cmyk), and (one that people don't usually look at, but should) whether color profiles are included. CMYK color profiles, especially, can add a lot to file size.
