Actually what needs to be done is you need to delete the entire InDesign Recovery folder, which may hold multiple temp files.  You can see a free movie on how to do so in my Lynda.com title on Troubleshooting InDesign:

Deleting the entire folder doesn't harm ID at all … and rebuilding preferences doesn't touch the Recovery Files.

Hank Scorpio (love that episode btw), your path is correct for CS2 (v4) Windows, but for CS3 (v5) and CS4 (v6), the Recovery folder was moved to a new place, inside a Caches folder.

Mac: User/Library/Caches/InDesign/[version]/InDesignRecovery

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[Your_Account]\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\[version]\Caches\InDesign Recovery

Windows 7: C:\Users\[Your_Account]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\[version]\Caches\InDesign Recovery

Thanks to Bob L. for the Windows 7 path!
