Can anyone help? I’ve drawn a shape in ID6 using the pen and convert direction point tools. I then added a photo to the shape and added a directional shadow to the shape. When I export the file – that contains this shape -to a PDF, the shape gets converted to a rectangle.

I tried adding the shadow to the shape and then also to the image within the shape. Both – when exported to PDF – gets converted to a rectangle. I also tried several different PDF settings with no luck there either.

Has anyone else experienced this problem or know of another work-around?

That is very odd. Are you opening the PDF in acrobat or reader or OS Preview or something else?

      Hey David.

I’m opening the PDF with Acrobat Pro.

What kind of image did you put in there? Is there any chance you placed a movie file by accident?!

Nope – definitely a PSD. I do have an EPS butting up next to it. Might that have something to do with it?

Hummm – think I just figured it out. I duplicated the shape and placed it away from the EPS that is above it and the duplicated shape converted fine in the PDF. Now, how do I get the two to like each other?????

Is there any way to send you a screen shot or the PDF? Doesn’t seem like I can add an image to this post.

re: screen shot: You’d have to put it on flickr or image shack or someplace and link to it here; sorry.

But if the duplicate works, then maybe delete the original and use the duplicate? Maybe it’s just some kind of corruption?

The only reason the duplicate worked is because I moved it away from the EPS image. I think it’s something that the EPS is doing to the shape.

Can you check to which Acrobat *version* you are exporting? The lower versions don’t support combinations of buttons and transparency (heaven knows why). Usually you get a reminder about that on exporting, but I think it’s one of those warnings you can click to “Never show again”.

You can try upping the Acrobat version to the max and see if that helps.

I found my work-around. I went back to my original EPS file that the shape in ID was next to. In Illustrator, I saved the same EPS file as an Illustrator file. Re-imported it into my ID file and now the shape is exporting fine to PDF. So the EPS was the problem for whatever the reason.

      Jongware – I’m using Acrobat X.

Thanks Dave an Jongware for letting me “talk” this one through.
