Apple released a new Leopard update, 10.5.4, to its Mac OS X users today, an update of special interest to InDesign users.
According to Tim Cole (Adobe’s InDesign/InCopy Evangelist), Adobe’s engineers have put it through its paces, and it appears to have fixed the Nav Services problems that some 10.5.x users were reporting with InDesign, as reported by Steve Werner on our blog here and here.
In a post today to his InDesign BackChannel blog, Tim wrote:
The 10.5.4 update appears to repair all of the Nav Services crashes that Adobe had been able to reproduce in its testing labs. In our internal testing with 10.5.4 we have yet to be able to reproduce the Nav Services crashes that we were able to reproduce with 10.5.3, so we believe that this update should eliminate the most commonly occurring crash problems associated with Leopard.
He added that 10.5.4 doesn’t fix the “can’t Hide InDesign” issue, but posted a workaround, and of course mentioned that there might still be other related but as yet unidentified issues. (Read Tim’s full post on the subject.)
If you’re running Leopard, you should be able to get the 10.5.4 update by just choosing Software Update from the Apple menu. You can also download it directly from the 10.5.4 Update page on Apple’s site: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1994.
Another fix of interest to Creative Suite users is that according to Apple, 10.5.4 fixes the problem of users not being able to save Photoshop files over the network without corrupting the image file … a bug which put a big crimp in the workflow of many users.
