I have this issue all the time–I think it is a longstanding but inconsistent bug. Sometimes InDesign will update a link….and sometimes it won’t. I’ve never noticed any pattern. I do InDesign training at my company and was showing off how this feature should work (and did work while I was doing a dry run) only to have it not work just a few hours later while presenting.
