Recently I wrote about Type:Rider, an app for iOS and Android mobile devices that teaches the history of typography in a Mario-style game.
But that’s merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to type games, as evidenced by a mind-boggling list of 18 Insanely Addictive Font Games at Mashable.
You can to assess your ability to identify and pair typefaces, learn to kern, and even find the typeface that best matches your personality.
A couple that didn’t make Mashable’s lengthy list: Font Nerd for iOS by MyFonts and Poster Letters, a game where you have to identify a movie by a single letter from the poster.
Caution: they’re not kidding when they call these games addictive. If you’re a true type addict (“who needs friends, I have fonts!”), these games will probably be like crack, and once you start, we’ll never hear from you again. Your type skills will increase, but you’ll skip meals, forgo personal hygiene, and eventually lose your job. Friends and family will desert you, and you’ll end up in a van down by the river, with nothing more than a crappy WiFi connection from a nearby McDonald’s, and your prrrrrecious font games.
