Dear all,
I think (hope) I searched everywhere but could not find any hints to answer my question…
I am working on InDesign files (Windows 10 and CC 2020) that have been translated from German to English. Until recently, the files have been packed prior to translation (nobody remembers why, so the colleagues don’t pack them anymore). Of course, all images contained in these files have been packed and are linked to the “Links” folder now instead of the original network drive.
So my question is: Is there a way to re-link the images to their original sources in a somewhat automatical way? Since there are an average of maybe 30 images per file and the folder structure of our media library is pretty complex, I’d rather not do it manually.
– I tried Dr. Scripto’s “link_finder” script, but after a while, InDesign freezes, probably due to the depth of the folder structure and the number of files there.
– I also tried editing the idml file (this worked for cross references within a book, so I thought I’d give it a try here). The links to the images are stored in metadata.xml, but no matter what I do, the links in the InDesign file keep pointing to the local folder. Strangely enough, when I create an idml again from this InDesign file, the links in metadata.xml point to the media library…
Long story short: Does anybody have an idea for me?
Best regards, Jens
