      Hi everyone.

I’m a newcommer in the InDesign world (and I am French, so please forvige my English). I’m working on a book about mushrooms I intend to publish in self-edition, presenting many different species. I’ve been watching a large amount of tutorials about InDesign in order to avoid making to many mistakes. I started by creating master pages : on the left page, information about the mushroom, on the right page, photos to see how it looks like. The left page master has a lot of text frames wit generic text which are supposed to be edited in each particular page to match the presented mushroom.
I heard that in order to edit text frames, one can Crtl+Shift+Click on it : each property which is modified is now independant from the master, but each proporty that remain the same is still dependant from the master. It means that if I only change the words on each page, every other change on the master page (location, color, size, etc.) is supposed to apply to all the corresponding pages. It worked until today and I can explain why it doesn’t work anymore, since I didn’t change any preference and didn’t modify the master either. By the way, some pictures and text frames also slightly moved on the pages (while remaining at the same place on the master)…

I’m completely lost… Would anyone happen to know how to solve the problem ? I would be so grateful, because it’s ruining days and days of hard work…

If needed, here is the book before the problem occured :

And here is a link to download the InDesign file (with the problem…) :

Thank you very much in advance for your attention !

I’m from Germany, so please forgive my English too. I downloaded your file, applied master page to new pages, placed new images within the properties, but the frames did not move. So I don’t know how I could help you with this issue. But I just wanted to say that you’ve done a really great work. I’m very impressed with what you have done. There is only one thing I would consider: Try to start working with different layers. It can be helpful with the stacking order.

Oh thank you for your answer, Dieter. I’m very glad you liked what I did ! I mean it : thank you !
I’ve also asked on another forum : it seems that there has been a bug or something like that. I’ve finaly restore the file thanks to Onedrive and things are back in order.

Just like you, other people suggested that I use layers : I’m currently making changes on the master pages.

Another question, perhaps : if I organize the master page objects in layers, when I want to work on a page corresponding to the afore mentionned master, I can’t select any item until I have Ctrl+Alt+Clicked on it. Would it be possible to select item before that step ? It would make selection a lot easier for small items…

No, I don’t think this is possible.
