I’m curious if there’s a way to replicate indd’s “Indent to Here” special character, but with baselines instead of a vertical indent.

So in the example linked below, I would want to place a non-printing character before “Placeholder Title” and before “Introduction &” that would tell Indesign to align these two’s baselines. Ideally the side column would just adjust to the main column.

So, can this be done? Thanks a million for any insight!

That link doesn’t show me the image, just the home page for the site, so I’m guessing a bit.

Is there a reason you can’t simply use a common baseline grid for this? Alignment would be automatic in that case.

I’m wondering if what Tia is looking for is “margin headings”… that is, headers that sit to the left of text.

We did this with our book Real World InDesign and it’s a wonderful effect and great use of the margin space. However, it’s generally very time-consuming because it requires putting the text headings in their own text frame and then anchoring that frame inside the larger story and positioning it with an object style, etc.
