Dear all, I was wondering if there was a script to make both a “spreads”-pdf and a “single pages”-pdf at the same time from an InDesign bookddocument? It often happens clients want to see their book in spreads, but actually want to make their corrections on single pages.

Dear Raphael, thanks, but maybe the script does not totally do what I would like. I would like one pdf with a range of pages (but all single pages) and i would like one pdf with a range of pages (all spreads). so actually i want to export the InD-book-document to two PDF’s: one with single pages and one with spreads.

You are right. You should write to the person who wrote the script (Tim Walden) and news@id-extras.com. Mention my name. He might be able to adapt the script to your needs. It’s actually a good idea and something that I might start doing for the same reason as you!

But then your client would have two separate PDF files!

You can also send them some basic instructions. The Adobe Acrobat Reader allows changing the view to Single page and to Double page. If you want to start the double-page view with a single odd page, set “Two up (Cover page)” as the default view option; then, a reader can still change it to “Single page” if he wants.

Easier to print when the pdf is spreads. Also the UI on Acrobat to change single pages to spreads is a PITA.

I spoke to the programmer and he wrote to me as follows:

It can already be done with Extract Pages.
      (1) In InDesign, create 2 PDF export presets: one that exports as spreads, and the other as pages (“Export as spreads” is an option in the PDF export dialog box)
      (2) In Extract Pages, type in the page range.
      (3) select to export as “Group of pages” (so you get a single PDF rather than separate PDFs).
      (4) Make sure only to tick the “Create PDF files” checkbox.
      (5) Click on “Select PDF presets and Folders…” and choose the 2 presets you want to use.
      (6) Click on the Extract button and 2 PDFs will be created.

Whether this is easier than manually exporting 2 separate PDFs I’m not sure.

Yes, you can use batchexport from Peter Kahrel, chose pdf and with ctrl/cmd select your pdf presets. One for spread and one for single pages. You can export 1, 2, or all pdf presets.

      Enjoy.
