The first several pages of my 160 page document have various frames that suddenly appeared empty. Photo links are still present, but updating or relinking them doesn’t cause the image to reappear. Text frames still contain their text. I can click on the IN PORT and get a loaded cursor which will place the text/tables nicely in a new frame. What is causing some (not all) of my frames to go blank? (Using Windows 10Pro, InDesign 13.1 x64)

A mystery! Hrmm. When you place the items “nicely in a new frame” are you doing so on the same page, or in a new page/new doc, or on the pasteboard?

I would check to see if there’s a master page item/s causing a text wrap, look at story editor w/hidden characters on to see if there’s a pattern to when text gets overset, or an errant frame break character, select text and change para/char style to Basic/None.

      Anne-Marie,
I placed the text box on the same page.
There are no master page item causing text wrap.
I’ll have to check story editor w/hidden characters on (if it happens again, see below)

Note… Each of the 5 pages had about 7 photos that also went blank. But three sets of grouped photos did not go blank. I could copy/paste photos but they remained invisible except for frame edges.
I decided I couldn’t figure it out (and couldn’t wait for help :) ) so I opened my backup file and used copy/past to get everything back in. If it happens again, I’ll save a copy of the corrupted file for further troubleshooting.
