“Text Variables” and “Special Characters” are definitely a couple of the underrated features of InDesign.
However, does anyone know if there is a way to modify the text variable “Modified Date” so the date would always be two days ahead.
I work for a weekly newspaper. We create and print the paper every Tuesday, but it doesn’t get delivered until the Thursday of that week. I would love automate the code so it changes the folio date every week, to the delivery date… not the date the file was last modified/saved. i.e. “December 5, 2017” would read “December 7, 2017”. Any info on how to go about this would be great. Thanks.

A script could do that. Feel free to get in touch with us at ozalto.com for details.

A script can’t do that. “Modified date” is always set to the time of saving – to fake it, you’d need to change your system date.

But of course it can be done with another type, the “any text” variable, by querying the current date, adding something to it, and setting the value of that variable to a formatted string.

A script could do what you described. That is to know create a on the fly variable that will compute the “date” and output the convenient string.
      I wasn’t implying anything else ;)
