Xerox to Make Over Four Nonprofit Organizations in Key Cities Nationwide

Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) is sweeping the nation looking for outdated nonprofit offices in dire need of a productivity refresh and a spruced-up environment. The winners of Xerox’s "Helping Hands" Office Makeover Contest will receive design, document technology, and décor upgrades aimed at making the organizations more efficient.
"Many small but vitally important nonprofits are struggling to serve their communities while keeping up with their own office needs," said Donna Wittmann, vice president, Small and Medium Business for Xerox North America. "This contest will provide organizations with the necessary tools to help them be even more effective in their work. It will also demonstrate how small changes in technology can result in big changes in productivity."
Xerox will hold contests in four cities to find the most obsolete nonprofit offices. Entries will be accepted during a three-week period in each city:

  • Charlotte, N.C. – June 12 – June 30
  • Denver, Colo. – June 26 – July 14
  • Indianapolis, Ind. – Aug. 14 – Sept. 1
  • Rochester, N.Y. – Aug. 21 – Sept. 8

The winners will receive prizes valued at up to $15,000, including Xerox WorkCentre™ digital multifunction systems, which print, copy, scan and fax; Xerox Phaser™ color printers; document management software; design services from Brice Cooper, host and designer for Home & Garden Television’s popular show Design on a Dime; and a variety of desk, seating and other office furniture from The HON Company.
"Nonprofit employees work so hard to make a difference for others that they often overlook their own offices," said Cooper. "By adding a splash of color, new technology and furnishings, we can energize these offices and their staff – giving them a more inspiring, comfortable and productive place to work."
Cooper will design a workplace that fosters creativity and collaboration for each winner. He’ll incorporate stylish furniture from The HON Company that combines the right mix of durability, affordability and flexibility to accommodate organizational change and growth.
Meanwhile, Xerox experts will assess document technology and work processes to uncover ways for the winning offices to reduce costs and streamline the way work gets done in offices stretched for time and money. Xerox will also help the winners add color to their communications. Like other organizations, nonprofits can use color to boost response rates for fundraising appeals, proposals and other materials.
This is the third year Xerox has held an office makeover contest. Previous winners have seen significant changes in their operations.
In 2004, judges selected Mad Science of Scottsdale, a children’s science education franchise. "We have been able to uncover hidden costs and save thousands of dollars by changing the way work flows through our organization," said Kathy Hamlett, co-owner of Mad Science. "By working smarter, we have been able to double the size of our business by purchasing a second franchise territory."
Business has been bubbling at Sprecher Brewing Co. – winner of the "Most Deserving Small Business" makeover contest in 2005. For example, the company is now able to produce colorful signage, labels and marketing materials in-house with its Xerox Phaser 7750 color printer. Creating these materials used to require additional cost and lead time for production; now it’s quick, convenient and less expensive.
For this year’s "Helping Hands" contest, a panel of judges including Wittmann, Cooper and Dave Burdakin, president of The HON Company, will select winners based on their need for updated document technology, more efficient work processes and refurbished office décor.
Entries must be submitted by a full-time employee age 18 or older of an Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) public charity or private foundation. The organization must have 5-15 full-time employees and have been in operation for at least one year. One entry can be submitted per organization. Complete contest rules and an entry form are available at www.xerox.com/helpinghands.
