SceneCaster Launches 3D Web for the Mass Market

SceneCaster today unveiled a new 3D Web community where anyone can create, share and explore interactive 3D scenes in their browser. SceneCaster extends the rich visual experience of 3D on the Web to a mass audience including consumers, creative professionals, and social media enthusiasts. Bridging the gap between the virtual and real worlds, SceneCaster also connects the online 3D experience to eCommerce sites such as eBay and Amazon, product catalogs from leading manufacturers and retailers and to social networks such as FaceBook and Flickr. The beta Web site can be accessed at https://www.scenecaster.com.
SceneCaster was selected to debut at DEMOfall ’07, the technology industry’s leading conference that showcases never before seen, innovative and disruptive technologies that will change and enhance the way we work and live. "There are plenty of places on the Internet that support creativity," said Chris Shipley, executive producer of the DEMO Conferences. "SceneCaster is the only Web application to put it all together in one place where people can go to get inspired, where ideas can be borrowed, transformed and made real."
"SceneCaster’s mission is to mainstream the 3D Web by lowering the barriers to adoption," said Mark Zohar, SceneCaster founder. "We’ve built it from the ground up by combining the very best the Web has to offer today – search, eCommerce and social networking – with a rich, immersive 3D experience that is accessible within a standard Web browser."
SceneCaster allows any Internet user with basic Web skills to easily create, share and discuss their own 3D scenes or to transform existing 3D scenes using a simple and intuitive drag and drop interface. Featuring integration with Google’s 3D Warehouse™, SceneCaster provides access to one of the largest catalogs of 3D content on the Web making it easier than ever for users to search for, select and customize 3D content for their 3D scenes. "SceneCaster is one tool in the 3D Internet landscape that helps make immersive, social media accessible to everyone," said Sandy Kearney, Global Director, Emerging 3-D Internet and Virtual Business at IBM. "By providing an easy-to-use environment and a wide range of content, SceneCaster offers an exciting marketing opportunity for virtual environments."
SceneCaster’s arrival is rapidly gaining industry attention from a growing roster of companies and brands that recognize SceneCaster’s approach to unleash the market potential for the 3D Web. A number of firms joined SceneCaster at DEMOfall 07 as launch partners, including Akamai, e-interiors, iStockphoto, Kohler, Oddcast, SmartFurniture, Wolfgang’s Vault and ZeroFootprint. "Smart Furniture’s innovative home furnishings and organizational products appeal to a wide range of customers," said T.J. Gentle, President at SmartFurniture.com. "SceneCaster lets them personalize and visualize their interior spaces with our products and connect and collaborate with friends and family about their design and product choices." More partners and sponsors will be announced by SceneCaster following the U.S. debut.
